Muck Rack is a web app by Sawhorse Media (creators of the Shorty Awards) that aggregates Twitter content from verified professional journalists. Its paid service helps communication pros find and track journalists who are talking about their companies, clients, and competitors in real time. It offers a free service to journalists who want to increase their follower counts and track what’s trending among other journalists.
In 2011, Barrel was approached by Sawhorse Media to solve various UX challenges, redesign existing pages, and come up with designs for new features. The goal was to create a user-friendly experience that would appeal to both journalists and communication pros, encouraging top journalists to become verified members and converting communication pros into paid customers. Over a period of 4-5 initial weeks, Barrel provided designs that were quickly implemented into the relaunch of the website that offered a Pro component. We've since been retained to provide designs to new sections and to improve existing pages.
