The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) partnered with Blenderbox to redesign sciencenetlinks.com, a free resource they provide in partnership with the Verizon Foundation’s Thinkfinity initiative. Science NetLinks is one of the oldest repositories of science lessons, resources, interactives, and editorial content online. The project goals were twofold: 1) completely overhaul the front-end of the site and provide much-needed search functionality to users and 2) develop a content management system that supported AAAS's content creation process.
Thinkfinity partner websites have been undergoing redesigns for the last several years that have put the sites on modern content management systems that integrate with the central Thinkfinity search engine. Science NetLinks began its redesign project in December 2010 and launched in November 2011. The biggest areas of complexity for the project were: a) defining the metadata for each content type and understanding the Thinkfinity requirements; b) finding a content management system that was a good fit for the AAAS content creation process and its IT environment; c) migrating thousands of pieces of content.
