Huge assisted Barneys New York in completely remodeling Barneys.com, with the goal of bringing Barneys’ unparalleled in-store shopping experience to life in the digital realm. The new website offers shopping with a story, ultimately delivering an elegant and engaging experience that makes Barneys, Barneys. Huge undertook the full redesign and build of Barneys.com. We began by reskinning the homepage and product/category pages to be ready for launch during the holiday season. In parallel, we engaged in the redesign, which included strategy, design and front- and back-end development. Barneys recognized that the divide between its in-store and online customers was blurring, and that “shopping” was an ever-changing notion. Customers who frequented the iconic department stores were using digital technology, and they were increasingly visiting the Barneys website before, during or after an in-store visit. Barneys.com was the company’s fastest-growing channel, but online sales still lagged behind the stores’. The opportunity to expand e-commerce—and, in doing so, drive sales and grow market share—was immense. Barneys engaged Huge to create an online experience worthy of the brand and its customers—a website that would not only translate the experience of shopping at Barneys New York into the digital space and onto mobile devices, but also enhance it. The new Barneys.com would revive and refresh the way Barneys communicates with its customers and also integrate seamlessly with the in-store experience. Shopping online needed to be engaging, inspirational and easy.
