Annual strategic research initiative to discover new opportunities and ensure Android scales internationally.
Growing Android internationally is one of our missions as a UX Research team. Each year, we lead a strategic initiative involving research in several countries. Our goal is to educate stakeholders about users' experience with Android around the world to ensure that Android's priorities align with their needs. We collaborate closely with design and product stakeholders throughout the entire process, from the initial study design right through to putting new projects on the roadmap. In 2013 we designed a methodology which included longitudinal and field research in China, Japan, India, Spain and the UK. We conducted a diary study with 67 users in these markets, facilitated 45 field visits with people in their homes, and upon our return ran a 6 day workshop to analyze the results. We led workshops with our product teams, produced 18 theme reports, and ran 3 research Expos in Mountain View, London, and Zurich, with over 700 attendees.
- Why this project is worthy of a UX Award:
This project deserves an award because of the unprecedented reach of its results and the impact it has had on the product roadmap. We've been invited to present to 17 groups within Google, and hundreds of Googlers worldwide have actively engaged with the findings through our 3 Expos and internal website. Our reports and sprints have informed 6 new large products, and 5 features, targeted to launch in 2014.
