It is used at the time of formation of a Self Help Group, the basic unit of Microfinancing and is based on an old traditional floor game which is part of the culture in rural India. The analogue game is complimented by a an app that runs on an android phone/tablet. It is used by the NGO representative conducting the training session. It helps in creating an efficient method of recording financial transactions hence improving the effectiveness of the whole system. The members simulate Microfinancing meetings using a set of cards and imitation money. laXmi helps the members understand the basics of loan, interest and its relationship to long term financial growth . laXmi is language independent, needs about 15 minutes of instruction and encourages participation in the process by all members. Lack of reading and writing ability has resulted in 18 million users dropping out of the micro-financing program in the past decade, laXmi addresses the critical need for financial literacy education for this user group. The biggest challenge was to create a solution that would focus on the resourceful nature of these incredibly smart women . The solution had to feel at home in rural India, so we made sure that it is inspired by the local culture and made by the women locally. laXmi has a short learning curve encouraging participation by women. Empowerd women population is the ONLY way forward for our society.
