View Case Study

The digital platform for Platinum and Centurion Card members is completely new. For the first time, top tier members around the world can view and reserve current offers. They can search and review details on the network of airport lounges to which they have access. They can also sort and preview their extensive travel insurance coverage, start a claim and initiate other service requests online.

The response was almost instantaneous, as traffic to the site went up an average of 175%, while page views rose up to a remarkable 875%.

The sites had to bring the exceptional service and benefits American Express is known for into the digital space. That meant integrating everything from rewards points to hotel perks into a completely reimagined user experience. And the platform had to work across more than a dozen markets and languages. The benefits offered to this elite audience, with Card spending of over $15 billion a year, are evolving rapidly and new content and functionality continue to be added in phases. As digital payments, new premium business models and social shopping transform the Card business, this platform will continue to be a game changer for American Express. The project started October 2010 and launched the first phase December 2011. Challenges: - Consolidating 15 different sites of different languages and cultures - Coordinating with each stake-holder in each country - Navigating the security protocol of business units - Many extremely early and late conference calls - Tight timeframe - Agile/Lean UX work process across multiple timezones
