View Case Study

As a self-funded R+D project, AM+A researched obesity and Type 2 diabetes, conducted competitive product analysis, wrote user personas and use scenarios, then designed screens, reviewed them with a diabetes instructor, then revised them. The Health Machine combines information design with persuasion design in a mobile app (or tablet app) with an assumed Web portal support to change consumers' behavior about nutrition and exercise to avoid obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

The information architecture emphasizes a dashboard, system/process overview, focused social networks, focused tips/advice, and focused incentives (competitions, games, stores, etc.) .

AM+A completed all of this work during the summer of 2011. AM+A wrote a white paper about the project, and published a case study in Information Design Journal. AM+A published conference papers in Design, Usability, and User Experience 2011 in the USA , and in User Friendly 2011 in China. The project won a design award in 2012 from the international Information Design Competition sponsored by the International Institute of Information Design. Mr. Marcus has lectured about the project worldwide. AM+A has made the information publicly available to encourage development and use of AM+A's design and research. AM+A is seeking further support to take a version of this concept design to commercial development.
